Learning Outside the Classroom - Dean Barwick
Throughout the spring term of 2010, Dean Barwick Primary School in Witherslack, Cumbria, developed their ‘Museums School’ project by using Abbot Hall Art Gallery and The Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry as their alternative classroom on Thursday mornings. Inspired by the Government’s ‘Learning Outside the Classroom’ manifesto which encourages a more creative approach to learning, both the KS1 and KS2 classes participated in this exciting programme which saw both groups using the gallery and museum as inspiration for their learning. Head teacher Linda Graves saw the buildings and the collections as the perfect way for children to study all aspects of the curriculum in a more creative and fun way.
